## A rigorous protocol that works for you

Working with Isometric's Biochar Protocol ensures certificates are only issued when carbon dioxide has been durably removed from the atmosphere—creating confidence for buyers and suppliers.

### What’s in the protocol

- [Durability](https://isometric.com/pathways/biochar#sampling)
- [Storage](https://isometric.com/pathways/biochar#measurements)
- [Greenhouse gas accounting](https://isometric.com/pathways/biochar#uncertainty)

#### Durability

Cutting edge scientific research shows that biochar can store carbon dioxide for more than 1,000 years. Under the Isometric Biochar Protocol, suppliers can choose the durability of credits they issue.

Certificates have specific measurement requirements for durability options:
- 200 year durability must use H/Corganic measurements.
- 1,000 year durability must use Random Reflectance (R0) measurements.

#### Storage

Isometric’s protocol can verify projects where biochar is stored in:
- Agricultural soils
- Low-oxygen burial environments
- Built materials (coming soon)

#### Greenhouse gas accounting

The Isometric protocol has clear guidelines for the robust quantification of net negativity:
- Eligibility criteria for biomass feedstocks.
- An accounting framework for direct emissions from pyrolysis and LCA emissions.

## Make verification painless with Certify

Isometric Certify—and its easy to use tools—take the guesswork out of calculating net removals, making verification quick.

### Submit easily

Any supplier or software provider can submit data via the platform, saving your team time and increasing the accuracy of your reporting.

### Verify quickly

The platform helps verifiers complete robust audits, quickly—meaning suppliers can get certificates issued within a month of data submission.

### Scale simply

Whether you have a pilot or large site, Certify scales with you. Adding new feedstocks and storage sites is straightforward and easy.

## Biochar equipment partners

Isometric’s pyrolyzer pre-approval removes one of the biggest bottlenecks to scaling biochar projects.
